Lower Elk Lake, East Kootenays, BC
Just 1km from the parking lot of the Elk Lake Provincial Park, the first spectacular vista of the park opens up. Everybody who wants to hike one of the many well developed trails of this remote park passes here on the way to the Upper Elk Lakes or the Peter Lougheed Provincial Park, across the provincial border in Alberta. For the adventurous, a less developed trail system leads into Cadorna, Wolverine and Abruzzi Lakes. In 2013, major flooding destroyed nearly all trails and bridges in the park. When we first came here in 2014, our hike ended right here after just 1km. As of 2017, the trail system has been fully restored.
